Townsend™ launches new website for ultra-demanding client: Townsend™

Admittedly, when a company launches a new promotional website for itself, it’s questionable whether that qualifies as “News.” But when you’ve been working for months designing a new site in between client projects; developing new content (and trying to make the old content look new); deciphering code to figure out why the headlines on the site are suddenly, inexplicably, appearing in the font Comic Sans; and all the other midnight misadventures that come along with building a new website for yourself… if after you’ve survived all that you feel like a little self-congratulatory news release has been earned, so be it. Besides, if you have a News section on your new site to post said self-congratulatory news release, who’s going to stop you, right?

So, we’re proud to announce that Monday, May 10, 2021, Townsend™ launched townsendtm.com with a brand new look. Sure, the new site looks a bit like the old one, but trust us, it’s way better. One of our heroes—Ray Eames—once said, “what works good is better than what looks good, because what works good lasts.” The site already looked pretty good, so this time we set an even higher bar for “works good” in the hopes that we don’t have to do this again anytime soon. At the top of each page will be a brand new logo for Townsend™. And guess what, most folks will think it looks pretty similar to the old one, but it works better, too. Especially online, where it is so incredibly important that your logo is effective in the smallest application possible as an icon on social media sites. For you type nerds (like us), we’ll point out that we’re introducing a new corporate typeface that features subtle but unique, modern letterforms that are appropriately cool for a design firm, and works better both online and in traditional applications as well.

One new feature of the site is the Case Studies section. Here we’ll feature a small sampling of curated brand identity work—mostly new but some older projects—that we think have been especially successful at helping our clients make their marks and win in their respective marketplaces. And if the Case Studies don’t whet your appetite, we’ve still got the Work section, where you can delve into our portfolio of select projects from the past 30+ years.

The ultimate goal is that our new site effectively showcases our brand identity work for our clients—from comprehensive identity programs for global corporations to simple logos for small, local businesses; from complex packaging systems for big-box retail brands to hangtags for single-proprietor businesses—to give you an idea of how we have helped organizations both large and small build brands that break through the clutter and succeed. And hopefully that will inspire you to go to the Contact page and start a conversation with us about how we can help you make your mark. When that happens, it will be much more rewarding than a news release, and you’ll be saving us from doing more work for this ridiculously demanding client that never leaves us alone us on weekends or holidays and that this post is about: Us.
